Promoting trail running in Manitoba and providing trail runners with opportunities to help maintain the trails they love.

What is the Manitoba Association of Trail Runners?

The Manitoba Association of Trail Runners is a membership-based grassroots not-for-profit organization that promotes trail running in Manitoba and provides trail runners with opportunities to help maintain the trails they love.

The priorities of MATR are:

  • Advocating on behalf of trail runners

  • Organizing opportunities for runners to do trail work and give back to the community

  • Helping build the local trail-running community

What does the Manitoba Association of Trail Runners do?

We:

  • Have a seat on the Provincial Trails Expert Advisory Body convened by the Provincial Trail Office.

  • Liaise with Manitoba Parks to ensure the needs of trail runners are considered in provincial park management plans.

  • Organize trail work days when runners and other trail users can help maintain trails in different areas around Manitoba.

  • Make sure that runners who do volunteer trail work with MATR get credit for it if a minimum number of hours volunteering to do trail work is a requirement for a race they’ve entered.

  • Educate pedestrian trail users on responsible trail use, including the principles of leaving no trace.

  • Raise awareness of trail running opportunities in Manitoba.

  • Promote a sense of community among trail runners in Manitoba.
