Single Track Sunday

When: 9:00 am at the trailhead, run by 9:15 am
Where: Jessica Lake Hiking Trail, Whiteshell Provinical Park

Join us for another Single Track Sunday of good friends, good company, and great trails.

We’re excited to head to the single track trail between Jessica and Cabin Lakes, where MATR has recently become a keeper of the trail for this stretch of the Trans Canada Trail. Our spring trail work efforts focused on getting this gem in great condition for summer adventures by clearing dead fall, brush cutting, and improving and adding much needed updated signage.

Our route will start and end from the trailhead at Jesscia Lake. We’ll head out on the Jessica Lake Loop C, which connects to the North Whiteshell TCT that we’ve been caring for. From there we’ll run down to the Cabin Lake Juction. Once we get to the Cabin Lake junction, you have a choose your own adventure option. Runners who are looking for a shorter day on trail can double back at this point for a return trip of approximately 7.8 km. For runners wish to go a little further, we’ll continue on the trail toward the (other) red bridge look out point. The return trip from the red bridge here is approximately 11.5 km.

For anyone who gets back to the Jessica Lake trailhead and decides they’d like add some extra kilometers, the A loop trail is an extra 1.4 km trip, and the B loop adds 1.6 km.

We encourage everyone to participate at their own pace. We'll have a MATR leader on the run, but you should feel free to run as fast or as slow on the route as you feel comfortable. Please be mindful of your own abilities and effort and adjust your run accordingly! Listen to the signals your body is giving you! We plan to be on trail for 2-3 hours. You can adjust your plan based on the route descriptions above.

This is a self-supported run. Pack your own water/hydration and snacks for the trail. After the run, we’ll snack in the parking lot and jump in a lake on the way home. Feel free to bring snacks or beverages to share afterwards.

There are long-drop/outhouses at the trailhead.

Hot Tip: Have a change of clothes and shoes for the ride home. Bring your swimming gear and snacks, too!

NOTE: We’re all-weather people and run under all conditions.
