Run or walk with us on the longest night of the year, December 21-22.
The Longest Night Run is a community vigil where we come together to remember those lost and to honour those struggling through difficult seasons in life.
Tuesday, December 21 is the winter solstice, the longest night of the year. In southern Manitoba that means 16 hours of darkness, from sunset to sunrise on the 22nd.
This is a night where we experience darkness. Grief. Loneliness. Anxiety. Weariness. We think of friends and family who are suffering. We think of the dark, lonely places in our own lives. We're not running for speed, nor heroics.
Maybe you're suffering. Maybe someone you know is suffering. This is your chance to practice longing. To practice hope. This is a vigil. This is us using our feet because words will not suffice.
And, together, we will move forward through the darkness.
MATR is honoured to be a part of hosting this event again in 2024. Join us in Steinbach this year to run together through the longest night. MATR will start the run together at 4:29 pm. If you can’t run, but you’d like to support the run, you can also join us to volunteer at the event. The Longest Night needs volunteers from 4:49 pm Dec 21 until 8:31 am Dec 22. If you can stay and help with clean up, that’s great, too! Let us know when you can help by sending an email.
Run package pickup and snacks will be available all night at The Public in Steinbach. Check out these routes starting from The Public you can cover.
You can also choose to walk or run, alone or with friends or family, anywhere you are – for 30 minutes, 2 hours, 8 hours, or the whole night.
