When: 9 am at the trailhead
Where: Pinawa Dam Provincial Heritage Park
Carpool Info: Meet outside Big Sky @ 7:15 am, the carpool leaves by 7:30 am. NOTE: The run leader will not be at Big Sky to help coordinate the carpool this time, so we can’t guarantee a car leaving from the shop!
This run follows the trail system that runs parallel to the Lee River from the Pinawa Dam Provincial Heritage Park to Pinawa town. This trail is an out-and-back and offers a number of turnaround points, depending on how far people would like to run on the day.
Turn around at the Alice Chambers Trail junction to cover ~7.5km
Turn around at the Pinawa Suspension Bridge to cover ~17.2km
Turn around at the Pinawa Channel Junction to cover ~21km
Turn around at the town junction to cover ~24.5km
This trail is fairly flat and not technical, but you should still be aware of rocks and roots on the trail but expect it to have LOTS of bugs (mosquitos, gnats, flies, etc!).
This is a group run for people of all abilities - run as little or as far as you feel comfortable on this out-and-back route.
Our plan is to picnic and swim at the Dam after the group run. Feel free to bring something for yourself (or to share) for a post-run hangout.
This is a self-supported run. Please ensure you come prepared with proper shoes, a hydration pack, and your essentials, including but not limited to food/snacks and at least 1.5-2L of hydration with electrolytes.
You can view the route here or download a .gpx to load it onto your watch.
Reminder: these are self-supported runs, and you must pack your own water/hydration and snacks for the trail.
Hot Tip: Have a change of clothes and shoes for the ride home.
See you on the trail.
